Antifibrotix
Development of a drug formulation for the prevention of scarring after glaucoma surgery
Project term: 2019-2023
Project leader IBMT: Dr. rer. nat. Thomas Eickner
Antifibrotix is a research network at the University Medical Center Rostock coordinated by the Institute for Biostatistics and Informatics in Medicine and Ageing Research with partners from the University Eye Clinics and the Institute for Biomedical Engineering. This network targets in vitro testing of antifibrotic agents, preclinical validation and preparation of clinical studies as well as the development of a portfolio of additional candidates of antifibrotic drugs, especially for treatment of secondary cataract and fibrotic retinal eye disease.
Based on previous work in the field of bioinformatics, a platform for the identification of molecular mechanisms for the prediction of drugs was established. Through the development of drug delivery systems and the corresponding in vitro and preclinical studies, we want to develop and study new formulations of drugs for the treatment of glaucoma.
The joint research project Antifibrotix is funded within the program “Validierungsförderung VIP+” of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
