Sensors and automation
A wide variety of electronic systems are used in automated processes to manufacture medical products. Applications include measuring and testing devices for characterizing implants, sensors and actuators for their manufacturing processes as well as diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. The integration of analog and digital components takes place using established bus systems and requires hardware-related programming up to cross-platform data processing. Measuring and testing devices as well as components for process control, automation and quality assurance are produced in our own experimental workshop.
Special research aspects arise from the combination of implants with sensor systems, so-called smart implants, which provide an improved understanding of in vivo processes at the implantation site or represent an important component, e.g. for telemedical applications. In a Future Lab, investigations into feasibility are carried out by researching prototypes of microelectronic solutions combined with material science and medical-biological effects.
