BMBF – Growth Core Mikro Las – Surfaces shaped by photonics

Project term 2017-2020

Project leader IBMT: Dr. Volkmar Senz

Subproject 3.5: Microstructure and biocompatibility of photonically processed surfaces

Within the framework of subproject 3.5, the extensive microscopic characterization of the surfaces, photonically processed in the collaborative projects of the growth core, will be performed. In addition to that, direct contact tests on cell adhesion, vitality and proliferation will be carried out to assess biocompatibility. An extensive range of methods is available for this purpose. The main focus of research activities is the correlation of morphological and structural properties with functional parameters and the biocompatibility of photonically processed surfaces. Also important, in particular, is using these results for a loop-feedback development processes.

Subproject 5.2: Development of characterization methods for the investigation of photonically functionalized surfaces on titanium implants

Within the scope of subproject 5.2, the microscopic characterization of photonically processed surfaces for optimized dental implants is to be carried out. A comprehensive range of methods is available for this purpose. In addition, special surface structures for controlling cell adhesion are to be developed. In subproject 5.2, direct contact tests on cell adhesion, vitality and proliferation are to be carried out for this purpose. Research activities will focus on the correlation of morphological and structural properties with functional parameters and the biocompatibility of photonically structured, ingrowth-optimized dental implants.
